knoll 101

After nearly ten months of looking for full time work, I am finally employed! I will start as space planner/designer for a knoll furniture dealer this week. It is very different from my past employment with an architectural office, but I'm looking forward to the challenge of learning more about another side of the design industry. It will include some new design software and getting very intimate with the knoll furniture line. One of my favorite manufacturers, knoll carries a whole series of classic 20th century pieces, and they continue to deliver new and innovative lines today. You may recognize some of the pieces from above :)

I compiled this list of light fixtures today and was reminded of our own exploration in hand-made lighting :) In 2007, my fiance and I were fortunate enough to take part in designing light fixtures for reDiscover to auction at neocon xpress in Los Angeles. reDiscover is a great organization that encourages children to think about concepts of preservation and reuse through repurposing discarded items as learning and craft materials. I love cooking and think I am well on my way to becoming an amateur chef. Today we made mushroom lasagne from scratch and I was enjoying my new salt an pepper shaker... if I am not careful, I'll turn into one of those old ladies with dozens of sets of shakers!
